Took the coastal path today though it’s longer and my blisters hurt. Ran into Australian girl and German guy eating prunes on a hill. German guy said “you have to check out this cave” and points down where the grass turns to rock.
I do. Cave tight, dark
Left or right?
Right takes me in a circle. I exit where I entered and feel confused.
Again-
Left takes me crawling through a tunnel, then into a huge cavern. I stand.
Stalactites and stalagmites, pointy things, up and down. I creep around the gritty shapes and toward the sound of waves.
Misty light peaks around a curved corner. A bit further, caution as I step- it’s uneven, slippery, more water at my feet now. Rushing sound gets louder, then I’m there.
The well carved teeth I’ve been walking through meet the tongue of sea, it licks the walls and laps at me. I stare and want to feel lost in it, but don’t quite. I’m scared. All the earth above my head feels heavy and what if one crashing wave comes in to take me-
I stand, frozen. I wait for the fear to pass, but it doesn’t. Then others come in-
their voices and flashlights bouncing around me.
The moment has passed, so I turn to leave.
